Beetle box ???
Basically a good GL4 oil... Redline MTL 70W-80 is nice if you're feeling wealthy and the box is fresh, or for about half the $$$ something like
Castrol Syntrans (75W-85 that's pretty similar spec and price to the Valvoline that Ian's said above).
If the box is a bit tired and cranky then maybe try going up to an 80W-90.
Kombi boxes from what I understand need an EP (hypoid) gear oil...
Its a 67 type 3 box.
Been out for a short axle conversion..
How much do you normally put in ? so i know how much to buy..
Cheers Vice
You need to buy 5 litre bottle...
You will need just under 3 litres of oil to fill Your gearbox transaxle..
You could buy 3 x 1 litre bottles but it will usually cost more than one 5 litre or 4 litre bottle...
cheers

75w/85 or 85 Hypoid transmission oil
that duramax may be Hypoid oil I don't know..
LEE
THanks man, So i need to make sure its Hypoid oil ?
I'm watching with interest while my trans oil drains....had 80/90 in it, which was the advice of the person that built it.
A little off topic, but I recently changed the trans oil in my suzuki swift. Put in 80/90 and it became harder to shift, especially when cold.
So, I drained it and put some castrol VMX 80 in (correct for that car) and it shifts like a hot knife through butter again.
Wondering if I should try it in the notch?
castrol VMX 80 is the only one to use.
hypoid gear diff oil ??
I used Castrol syntrans hypoid oil -= synthetic oil $$$$$$
in My gearbox and only bought 3 litres... 3 x 1 l bottles..
synthetic oil has a bad habit of leaking thru are bolt thread stud etc it can....
75W80 is good weight of oil...
LEE
Yep you need to have hypoid oil in your trans as Lee said.
