Ankor Wax - Consistency and application question.
benjicon - March 5th, 2011 at 11:04 AM

Hey guys,

I have had a liter of Ankor Wax sitting on my desk for about 6 months, never got around to applying it to my bug, I want to put it on this weekend, was thinking of spraying it on as suggested on the pack, I had a look inside the can to see the consistency, but it doesn't look like it would spray on very easily, its about as thick as runny yoghurt, and a caramel color. Does this sound right ?

Has anyone spray applied Ankor Wax ? What did you use to spray it on ? Its says on the pack to use Airless spray , I assumed this was like a hand pump type sprayer, does that sound right ??

Ben.

I think a few people posted stuff about that wax under paint and body, But I used the paint on KBS clear coat as it doesnt go yellow and you only need to do it once.

I would have thought you rubbed it on with a cloth. If it were sprayed on, wouldn't it have to be rubbed anyway to ensure it's even?

Rub it on with a cloth. With your car, I would rub it in just like a polish, and then buff it up with a second cloth. That way you'll still get the Ankor wax projection on your patina. You could leave it thicker by just wiping it on with a cloth and letting it dry on, however I don't think that's the effect you're after with your patina and paint.

an airless spray gun will apply thicker liquids than a regular spray gun, i work in a food factory and we use one to spray cooking oil onto baking trays, so spraying a yoghurt like substance will be easy! it will go on quite thick and will take some rubbing in, i'd do a couple of strips then spread it out over the rest of the car!

i have used it but didnt like the finish it gave...maybe better on a ratty car then a car that has some sought of shine...

it does however go a long way..i spread it with a paint brush very thin....and it takes alot of muscles and time to rubby rub dub though......the water here in perth sucks for washing cars as it leaves water marks "stains if been polished" and i found it was worse with the anker wax....it always looked cloudy, could never get a shine out of it.....

for a ratty, it propably looks good...
