Hi guys,
I just bought a 1500 beetle that the ex owner fitted new dual 44mm webers to. The motor is stock and because of the large webers it's causing the motor to 'splutter' more than run. I haven't yet picked up the car but am looking to quickly get this problem sorted. I have little mechanical knowledge but i'm told that the webers should be rejetted and dyno'd for a smooth running car. I want a daily driver that keeps up with traffic and zippy would be a bonus. Does anyone recommend other solutions? Anyone recommend a workshop that is reliable and reasonable in Sydney? I'm happy to sell or swap the brand new webers for something more suited. Does anyone else have a 1500 running nothing more than big carbies and do they have a reliable car? Any assistance or advice would greatly be appreciated.

I would guess that you have a 1600 motor as a1500 is a single port and the 44's are for duals

44's with a 32mm choke will run on a 1600
You can get into arguements about throttle body size and velocities but you "should" be able to do it

Jetting a set of carbs is not cheap - can run into $100's is new vents, mains and idles are required.

What kind of webbers are they, is the motor a single port or dual port, If they are 44MM webers the motor would have to be a dual port and these would be to large for it even with the smallest size choke's, it would have no bottom end and would not be very drivable, i have had these carbs on several engines and tune them myself. did you get the standard carby with the car, you could always fit this again or two single barrel carbs like the small webers.
