oil temp and oil pressure at idle

hello everybody,
i've just installed a oil temp gauge on my T-1 engine and i have a few questions.. i am using a T connector to the original oil pressure switch spot and the sensor connects to the T along with the oil pressure switch.. i picked this option over the sump sensor... which one of them is more accurate?

another thing - the oil temp. doesn't goes beyond the 100C but on 80C (oil temp) the oil light flickers on\off and on 90 it comes on while idling around 800rpm, i don't have an oil pressure gauge and i verified the gauge and sensor by dropping it into bioling water (while it bubbles) and the gauge red excactly 100C so i think the mechanism is pretty accurate, not sure about the location of the sensor, hope to hear from you guys..

i'm not sure about getting accurate oil temp from the oil pressure sender hole. not much flow of oil past there.

put a pressure guage on the T.
and put a temp sender somewhere oil flows eg dipstick or if you have the temp sender put it in the oil pressure relief valve

i think the oil pressure light comes on at very low pressure (2-4 psi) perhaps the temp sender is playing havoc with that

what do u mean "playing havoc with that"?
the oil pressure switch comes on the left and the heat sensor is above so it could be restricting the oil flow to the pressure switch... i'll try to weld a nut to the draining plate and plug the sensor there and see if i'll get a diffrent reading there...

anyways, the engine doesn't feel, sound or smells hot, the only thing the bothers me is that the dipstick is really hot when the engine is around 90 degress, by hot i mean there's no way i can hold it more than a second or two... :jesus

is there anyway i can get the rpms up to 1100rpm and live peacefully with the engine?
how much oil pressure should i have at 90rpm idle with cold oil and how much while cranking?
any advice will be appreciated...

If the engine oil temp is 90 then you should easily be able to hold the dip stick

The old test if you dont have a gauge is if you CANT hold the dip stick for more than a couple of seconds you are TOO HOT

I agree with bug eyed, the oilt temp needs to come from somewhere else. I tapped into the t3 oil dipstick blockoff plate on my universal case. If you tap into the sump plug be aware that the air rushing under the car will cool the sender and give you a false cool reading. I use the T type fitting for an oil pressure guage and the low pressure sender.

Sounds like your case has been line bored and when hot the oil goes thin and you loose too much pressure at idle due to excessive clearance. The oil does not have to be over heated for this to happen. I used to have a post about this but cannot find it.

What oil are you using. I would use a thicker oil like penrite hpr50. This will help you keep pressure at hot idle. Only use dino oil, not synth. An oil pressure gauge would be a good investment too.

You can stick one of those meat thermometers down the dipstick hole to get a pretty accurate reading.

I've got a VDO dipstick sender and it works great. i've also got a VDO press gauge at idle it doesn't get of the mark but the light doesn't come on so thats good enough for me.:D

ok, i'll get an oil pressure gauge and check the oil pressure at cold idle... how much it should have ? around 70 psi is fine??

how do i know for sure wheter the case line bore clearence is too excesive or the low oil pressure is caused by a worn oil pump gears or cover..?

right now i'm running around 1100 rpm to avoid the oil light at working temp.
what's the damage of this on the long run?
