adjust the rear end camber and replace the rubbers as they will probally be worn and need attention

bugzla - March 14th, 2011 at 06:49 PM

but how do you adjust the camber ? the rubbers do need changing thou they were a bit ratty looking

have a look at he book called VW for the complete idiot

It may explain easier than i can

you need to set the car level and use a bubble protractor to measure the angle on the trailing arm

YES u need to replace the inner n outter rubber bushings as this also effects the camber if they are buggared

The camber is adjustable by which ever angle you set the rear end too there are inner n outter splines whic hmake the adjustment

do u have a local VW shop that may be able to reset the rear end for you

Hi

Its hard to explain but the spring plate and trailing arm are able to scissor where they meet.

To get maximum positive camber you need to loosen the bolts on the spring plate and trailing arm and put a jack under the shock mount, this will make the trailing arm lift in relation to the spring plate giving maximum positive camber.

Think of it like this, if you have negative camber the top edges of the spring plate and the trailing arm will look like an inverted shallow V, in positive camber you will have a shallow inverted V.

There is not a lot of adjustment so if the bushes are worn they could be causing issues, particularly the inner ones on the pivot.

thanks guys ill save and buy the bushes and adjust

I had a similar issue, got my ride height dead even with all new bushes etc both sides but camber was out. I used south coast suspensions at kirrawee in sydney and he managed to get it all squared up the way steve described. There was a couple of degrees of adjustment in there from memory but finding a competent wheel aligner isnt quite so easy!

Owen, I think that may be EAST Coast Suspensions (down South, in Sydney) _ David Falson?

http://www.eastcoastsuspensions.com.au/

He ran a particularly well sorted 356A on the dirt track circuit at Amaroo, in another lifetime.

Speaks VeeDub fluently, both road and race.

Do you remember what it cost to get your IRS sorted at the time??

Lance.
