Ive been using with good result, ACE 30 20W-40 or ACE 40 25W-50 for older engines. They also do a semi synthetic.

Also snake oil is excellent.

developed between Jake Raby and the Brad Pen company.

EDIT: Sorry Joe Gibbs not Brad Pen. Although Brand Pen is one of only few oils RAT recommends.

Looks like we have a snake oil salesman here.

I use penrite semi synthetic 10w40 in my daily water pumper not in any vw's, anyway I checked out their
data sheet and was mere identical to ACE30

zinc, phosphorous, density, dynamic viscosity, low med and high temp viscosity, base number and all other specs
were almost exactly the same? like .001% difference at most!

I lol'd. good oil, guess you get what you pay for. $50 a jug it's pretty good for its price.

I thought this was an interesting read.

Been using it for a year now in my 2110 its really good, but can't seem to find it in Oz and was told, by Valvoline Oz they only have 10/40 ?? in the country, looks like I might have to change to a different brand :fakesniff:

So I was looking for recommendations from anyone of something I could buy local, don't want to scrap a motor :fakesniff:

don't know if above link will work, but some comments on VR 1...

I can't see the attraction.
[And there seems to be a mis-match between the theory that SL, SM and SN ratings mean less Zn and P and S...]

yeah that happens these days. Bastard companies say one thing then sell another.

You really need to lab test oils regularly these days

Are u really that easily brainwashed ?

vlad01 - April 3rd, 2011 at 10:13 AM

 do some research dude!

now who looks like an idiot.

Hmm I wonder if 66Deluxe has used this oil before?

matberry - April 3rd, 2011 at 10:37 AM

Yep pretty sure Daimo's used the ol Snake oil IIRC.
I've used the BradPenn too, I thought it was great. Engines love it. Oil consumption on good engines drops to zero which is perplexing, had it happen on 2 good stock waterpumpers.
