Correct Wheel Studs . . . Help!
OldTimer - April 4th, 2011 at 11:10 PM

Hi-de-ho fellow dubbers,

I went and bought the following:

  1. Set of 4.5x15 EMPI FUCH Replicas
  2. Set of 5.5x15 EMPI FUCH Replicas
  3. Front Disc Brake Kit (and drop spindles)
  4. Rear Disc Brake Kit

The Front Disc Kit I got from CVD, and they double up for both the Porsche Stud pattern and a Chevy one (see pic below). This kit DOES NOT come with studs.

The Rear Disc Kit I got from Micks. This kit DOES come with studs fitted.

I just want to ask you guys what size studs I need for the Front Disc Kit, and where I can get them from?

Any advice will be gratefully taken on board.

Old Timer

Hey Aussie Dubbin,

Nah I don't mind telling the world - they were the cheapest I could find at the time . . . $280.00 each from Mick Motors.

You can buy a set from Vollks.com.au today for $224.00 each.

Cheers,

Old Timer

I was at a conference years ago where a french fellow who worked for the FUCHS oil company announced that to pronounce :
"Fuchs as in Chooks not as in Ducks"
true..

OldTimer - April 6th, 2011 at 07:25 PM

Hey Lee,

I can hear him saying it with a french accent - very funny

Yes I like the wheels too (obviously). I'm contemplating doing the whole Porsche Black paint thing (see below), what are your thoughts?

are there some pics of your car somewhere Oldtimer?

OldTimer - April 6th, 2011 at 07:44 PM

Hi Hellbugged.

Not yet, I've been keeping the car under wraps until I've added all the bits I've been hoarding. It's currently a plain jane '67 Type 1.
It's not going to be anything too awesome, but it will be Resto-Cal.

So far I've got . . .

- Lowered Beam
- Drop Spindles
- Front Disc Kit
- Rear Disc Kit
- 4.5 inch Fuchs (Front)
- 5.5 inch Fuchs (Rear)
- GT Exhaust System (exits via normal holes)
- 6 to 12 volt Kit (Everything but a starter motor)
- Full TMI Interior (Seats, Carpets, Door Cards) - Not fitted yet
- Flat-4 GT Wood Steering Wheel
- EMPI Short Shifter Kit
- EMPI Gear Stick
- RetroSound Front End
- Porsche 911 Headlights

Haven't decide on the motor yet, but will go for something warmish - not too hot. Want to have fun, but with reliability. (They call me Old Timer after all).
Last thing will be paint.

I hope to have everything done (excpet motor and paint) in the next month. I'll then throw up some piccies so you guys can cast your expert eyes over it.

Cheers,

Old Timer

That looks like one very tidy ride - very impressed. The paint looks fantastic, and it appears to be very straight too. Congratulations.

My '67 is straight too but the paint isn't as nice as yours. I have absolutely no rust except for pock marked bumpers. It looks like this . . .

And this is the look I'm going for . . .
