stud patterns

can anyone tell me what stud patterns were used and when with kombis. I prefer wide 5 pattern but am interested in others as well.

Wide 5 was used till 67 on Beetles and then went to 4x130. Kombi was until the Bay window came out I think and then it went 4x130 also until the late 70's when it went to 5x112 which is why Bays can have porsche wheels fit straight on :)

Kombis were wide5 205x5 till 71-72when disc brakes started but the new 5x112 pattern is same as merc, audi and some later watercooled VWs but not Porsche, it was 5x130.

thanks joel but am probably gonna get blank discs and drill them to either ford 5 stud or landcruiser 5 stud. Gives me a wider choice in wheels for offroading.

landcruiser in FIVE stud is huge & not that common, best sticking to 5x114.3 (ford honda nissan toyota etc etc) offsets on factory steel/alloys from 0 to +60ish so you can squeeze them right up under the body hugging the suspension or have them pushed out heaps, depending on legal stuff alignment wheel travel yadda yadda yadda, falcon wheels should be plentiful enough though no matter where or what application.

For a baja it would worth considering the 6 stud 4wd pattern.

I know Gordon had that with his yellow baja convertible, that way you can fit alloys and tyres for all the 4WD cars like Hilux, Patrol, Navara, Landcruiser, Triton etc.

Yeah thought of that but was told that it was not possible to get a 6 hole drilled into blank beetle rotors.

Also am considering buying some spindles etc from a type 181 and am wondering if beetle rotors will fit their spindles ok?

PM Mattberry. And I've seen a few Baja's with 6 stud. I don't see any reason why you can't have this. Only thing you have to watch with 4WD rims is that they ofter have a lot of offset and are quite dished. It may be hard to find rims for the front that aren't sticking out from under your guards. I'm not certain on this one, just something for you to check before drilling out new rotors.

Thanks Smiley, Have been looking at rims a lot lately and have found some I really like and would look good with what I have planned for baja but $s might be an issue. As far as dish is concerned I currently have 185s on standard up front and they rub out on the ball joints at full lock, so am thinking a deeper dish might be good. As for the rears I have such a large dish currently that it is impossible to match in any alloy I have seen.

Mine are the same size! And do rub a little. Problem i have if I go any further out at the front it'll be copbait, they're borderline at the moment. You can always fit fender flares, but I hate them personally.

Beetle rotors onto the 181 stubs works with a disc caliper mount available from Sharpbuilt.

Six stud are available from Volksconversions but not for me.
