I have been getting a mist of oil over my engine after long fast runs for a while now, and thought it was from the dodgy cork seal in the oil filler
cap.
I replaced it over Easter, and cleaned the engine. After I drove back to work yesterday (a bit over 700km), I had a line of oil spray on the tinware
in line with the back of the crank pulley.
Is this where I should look at installing a sand seal, stock up on degreaser, or is there some other cause that I hadn't considered.
hows your breather??? pipes
Should be OK. I have breather pipes running from the tappet covers to a breather box, my case breather goes to both the breather box and the vent
under the engine, and the breather box vents to the RH carby.
Is there any way I can test it?
Just thinking, I also give the car it's 600,000km service (70,000km for the engine) on the weekend - I wonder if I have ended up with the oil level
to high.
I will check tomorrow.
Hi Jeff
Also have look at the reverse thread on the slinger, they can get blocked.
Steve
Hmmm. Will have a look at it next time I am home for long enough.
if it has just happened after the service then your oil level is probably a tad high....I would be checking that first
T
I haven't cleaned it for a while, and I think I was getting oil spray from the gasket in the oil filler cap and a leaking rear main oil seal (that I
also replaced on the weekend), so I am not sure if this has just started or not.
I will check the oil level tomorrow though.
I just use degreaser under My beetle but that looks like you have too much oil in Your engine..
a mist after 700kms is probably OK IMHO....
but the only time I've had actual oil on the tinware is after blocking the breather by mistake.... lol
but it really came out.... so Your breather must be OK...
I always have been thinking why not use an O ring there...???
but seeing You don't go near sand....
I think You may need a highway seal....
