Guys When my motor is cold and I start it I have what sounds like a knocking noise that after 10 seconds goes away not to be heard again it is new and
not the norm for my 1200 T1 bug. This is my idea that the cold motor starts no oil is in the block it self lubricates and the noise goes away cause it
now has oil everywhere other wise the motor runbs smooth as but remember this noise is not normal any ideas?
Thanks
My 1600 sounds similar until the oil circulates dont think it is a problem
Just a sign of an engine with alot of KMs under it's belt.
Nothing to fret about but it is a telltale sign a rebuild is on the horizon.
With that extra wear it take a little longer for an aging oil pump to pump up the bearings.
Just keep regular oil changes up to it and keep an eye on oil pressure if you have a gauge.
My old Hiace work van with 438k on the clock did it for over 70,000kms and kept going thanks to regular oil changes.
speaking of what grade oil are you running in it?
Yes,
keep changing the oil every 3,000klms..
including cleaning the strainer under the sump plate
maybe changing to a thinner oil in winter...
depending on what You are using now....

Call me a worry wart, but the motor is telling you that its due for a rebuild, yeah you can buy some extra time but in my eye's, its cheaper to rebuild a running engine than one thats done a big end or spun a main bearing chewing up the case, If its taking 10 seconds to shut up your mains, well, the last item in the cue for the oil are your valves & they make a big mess. Sorry, but thats the way I look at things good luck which ever way you go.
