Who has a 1600cc engine and gets the reccomended fuel consumption of 9 litres to 100kms ?
as stated in the Brochure

Im sure I get only like 13 L / 100kms, but i dont do much freeway driving, and i do accelerate hard, also aero dynamics of the car may be stuffed
being a chopped convertible, and I am unaware if it is even a 1600cc engine, may have had work done to it by previous owner, but i doubt as the max
I've ever been able to achieve was almost 130km/hr with foot to floor on open freeway ( Dont worry, not a regular thing, just out of interest one and
only time)
What Do you get? Litres per 100 kms plus not engine size
(tried to do a poll, didnt know how to do it)
my Gregory's manual says 25 MPg or about 11L / 100kms average
I get 12-13L / 100 in city driving and 8L/100 on the highway
I seem to get that with every motor I have ever had - 1600, 1776 and 1916. Single and dual carbs
That is in a 1975 1303L
Have you ever checked your speedo on one of those 5km markers on the highway
I have had up to 20% low - only just clicked over 4kms in the 5 km stretch
Ive never tried that, mines in Miles so i'd have to remember it and calculate it later haha, but i will try that next time i drive south and go past

Yes I have a Gregory's manual in the car too, and im sure it didnt have the fuel consumption being that low and actually closer to what I actually
achieve. According to my speedo I get roughly 170 miles off a tank (So roughly 270kms). But like you said my speedo could b way off, i definately
going to try that now. THANKS

In my 1500 swing-axle bug with a 1600 twin-port engine I used to get about 200-250 miles out of 30 litres which is getting close to 9 litres/100km. I
think I get similar out of my S-Bug, somewhere around the 10 litres/100km range and I don't drive it like a grandma. I'm hoping to put on twin
webers soon though so I'm sure that will throw the good fuel economy out the window! 
its surprising as i think i get around the same as you guys the funny thing i get around 11/100 from my commodore
If you're just going off the odometer then forget it, they weren't even accurate when the cars were new, they always read low especially 12 volt
speedos that have the plastic odometer drive cog.
I thought my mileage was terrible till I verified by GPS my speedo only turns 8.8kms for every 10kms driven.
When I had a bog stock 1600 it averaged 8.5L/100km which is alarmingly better than VWs claimed average of 9.4L/100km or 25mpg 
Even on the highway it used to get down to 7.5L/100
Even my 1776 with 40mm webers driven spritely didn't get worse than 13/100L.
i was getting 260 miles on 30L in the stock 67.......now with the roof rack it's 240miles 
hmmm some very good points, specially on the speedo, which i know mine isnt in the best of condition, Well i may just wait till i get my other bug on the road in a couple of months (Same year, same model) and see if there is a difference

my crummy old VP does 6.5L per 100km on the highway and about 8-10 in the city depending on traffic.
Most of my stock volksies with extractor exhausta got between 28 and 40 mpg on the highway.
My supercharged car got 9 litres per run.
yeah if the engine is built right you can expect great mileage. Its a sure sign of efficiency.
all of Raby customer's typically get 35-45mpg. Just a good example of great engineering. As he would say "its all in the combo".

).Well tuned 1600 in stock-ish condition will still average well under the 10L/100 mark.
All my heavy superbugs have but that is when all stock and in tune.
A worn out carby and a 009 instead of the original vac advance distributor give 6 cylinder like economy.
the difference in my 71 sbiug going from 009 to stock SVDA was huge.
Even Dads 1600 trike has got 10L/100 consistantly for the last 14 years and it has a weber and is not something you drive easily
Agree with the earlier comment regarding accuracy of speedos. In my younger days as an instrument fitter I worked on many a speedo and never found
one that was accurate. Even setting them up in the instrument workshop there was no guarantee to accuracy in the vehicle. Keep in mind that the
difference in tyre diameter will effect what the speedo reads e.g. wear. So will tyre pressure. So IMO the only real way to get the distance I guess
is use a GPS these days. Then how do you measure the fuel consumed. I would be surprised that all pumps are calibrated to a fine tolerance of
accuracy though a rough estimate can be obtained.
As far as I can tell the new 1600 in my '63 SC gets less than 10l / 100km.

Go into a Yamaha Marine dealership and purchase a fuel flow meter kit for a boat, install in your VW and monitor your consumption at any given speed

Interesting read, since I built my 1641cc I have been getting around 320miles from 30L in my 67, not sure how accurate the speedo is but now daily drive a mirage as I'm selling the beetle but the mirage isn't any better as I only go to and from work in them!

That is 5ish L per 100 - that is BRILLIANT
I'd be checking the accuracy of the odometer, normally they read low not high.
Thats 5.8L/100 or 48mpg(imp) /40mpg(US) which is modern turbo diesel figures not 40 year old VW.
The early 50s 25hp 1100s barely cracked 37mpg(imp)
Just google mapped, 490klm's was my weeks driving average between fuel stops.
Still good I think!
Not saying amazing but I was happy with it.
on the usual stretch i use to check my car against ( ie from my place to the bp at the end of the f3, i get 10.5L/100km with the 2L and use to get
11.9L/100km with the stock 1600.
must do that run again soon to check again
I'll have to keep an eye on my fuel consumption, as i just started a job which gives me a daily travel distance of 156km. I've never worked out what my 1600 gives me.
