OK... the '72 super 1600 has been under a tree for a year before I got it. already established that either the starter motor is kaput or its the wiring but when you turn the key... nothing..no clicks or anything, yes the battery is good. . Tried shorting the starter motor terminals but no go.. hmmm prob starter motor gone. Anyway I put some fresh fuel in her and got my neighbour to tow me around with a snatch strap and it fired. After a while we managed to get it running (rough but running) but still no idle. heaps of blue/black smoke to start but then it settled down to faint blueish smoke at good revs.
So my question is... running rich?, starving? timing? been sitting for too long? Any advice from anyone with any experience in this scenario would be greatly appreciated...

Just do a full tune up

Valves, timing, points, oil change etc etc

I would pull the carb and change/flush that fuel as well

Thanks for the input... luckily I have the "official service manual" and the Haynes "Automotive Repair Manual". Between my brain, eyes and hands I should be able to to do it all without to much trouble. I'm about to bench test the starter motor, see what happens, I'm just happy that it runs at this stage, haven't had to spend a dime yet (including acquisition). I'm stoked!!
