Hi

I have always used collapsible steering wheels on My VWs since they came out in 1972-3 in type 3s..

Many VW owners will NOT know that these were designed to collapse when they hit Your Chest...

well, if it Did hit Your chest....

Didn't supers (strut front end) have a collapsing steering wheel also?

It was an ADR to have the collapsible wheel hub.
They were in all of them after 11/71 - Standard Beelte, Sbug, Lbug, type3, Karmann Ghia all used that same steering wheel.

Kombis stayed with the old solid hub 2 spoke wheel but it's not facing your chest and head, and a collapsible hub wouldn't spare you any injuries in a frontal impact collision anyway.

I need to get me one of those, my L bug misses her steering wheel!

And I kinda miss it too :P
