I think my charger @ home can do 6 & 12v. I'll check tonight. If it does, you are most welcome to borrow it. I am in East Kew

6V chargers are getting impossible to get. You can use a 12V to charge but you will need 2 6V batteries.
Connect the +ve from the charger to +ve of battery No. 1 & -ve from the charger to -ve of battery No.2. Then just connect -ve from battery No.1 to +ve of battery No.2 to complete the link.

I bought a 6v/12v battery charger from Supa Cheap Auto a couple of years ago they were about $40 most auto shops would ahve them or be able to get them

Good news, it does 6v. Come and grab it whenever.

you can charge the 6v from a 12volt charger. Just half the amount of time you would charge a 12v (assuming the amp hours are about double)

It fried the rectifier inside the charger!!!

You can jump start your 6 volt battery with a 12 volt one for a very short period of time. we used to do that to my brothers 6 volt bug

I'm sure my charger can do it but if it stuffed yours then I would suggest that you connect a ballast resistor in series with the positive side. That way your charger thinks its doing its thing and your 6v batter is only getting 6V. Early toyotas all run a 6v coil (just about anyway) so they are easy to get hold of.

mmmm... glad i didn't attempt to charge my 6V batt with my 12V charger at all then!... fried stuff only smells good when its chicken based, not electronic based...

I managed to borrow Raf's charger and its working fine... the charger and battery that it... dam bug still won't start!

Ahh Chris, so you don't need your 6v battery then. Give it to me :D

When do you want to pick it up then Raf?

I should be working on my car this saturday but not before or after, so you can have it around that time...
