Hi How do I go about wiring a cigerette lighter socket into my 61 beetle which is converted to 12v?

Cheers
Matt

mate, no body smokes anymore..
however if its for a phone charger, gps etc.. too easy
just run a coupla wires from positive n negative battery terminals n wire up an enclosed female plug end thingy from tricky dick smith or jaycar etc
positive to the center core
n best to put a fuse inline to the positive side as well to prevent horror stories to be told around a camp fire later in life to the grand kiddies
not too hard n use plenty of lekki tape to make it all look professional
or
head on down to the local auto lec n they will sort you out
too easy :tu:

Just buy the plug and mount from super cheap take one wire about 10 cm long and tech screw it to the body of the car this is your earth then take the positive to the back of the fuse terminal test it to figure out which one is live all the time or only when the ignition is on and piggyback it here make sure you dont over load the fuse but its a 20 minute job. I keep a 12v light plugged into mine for those late night break downs. so far havent broken down it also is good for the gps.

Hi
they were really called cigar lighters... lol

Now called Power Sockets... lol

If You are going to drill and file a hole to fit it in then You don't need to earth it...
just a power wire to the center pin or wire...

I have one of those 3 sockets together.... mounted under the dash... two screws... and red LED...
two wires...
One to earth .,.. under the screw holding it on...
other one to power source .. fuse box etc...

cheers

LEE

PS: Power sockets aren't really made for high amperage things like cigar lighters etc.... anything else is OK....

i did this purely for charing my gps phone et al, when i went to super cheap it was alot cheaper to buy a 3 port plus usb outlet multitap from a normal cigarette lighter plug than actually buy the socket. so i bought one and glove box mounted it after cutting off the plug and wired it into the chassis and the positive for my stereo as i knew that was fused. it took about ten minute and still works 4 months late with no issue
