I'm at my wits end with setting up my type 1 engine. I've got a Solex 30 PICT-2 carbi and I can't get the engine to idle. It revs OK up
to 4000 RPM, but when it drops or is set on 2000 RPM and under, it coughs and splutters, until it stalls. It has to be run at over 2000 RPM to keep it
running. It drives allright, until it gets near 2000 RPM and then it 'runs like a hairy goat'.
Now what I've done to try to 'fix' this problem is, clean the carbi inside and out. The float bowl is not flooding and it's not
starving of fuel. There's no blockage of jets. No leaking of gaskets or the intake manifold to head seal. Everything is screwed down and
tightened up.
Please anyone, what can I do to fix. Any ideas?
Regards,
Mark
Every time I've been where you are it always turns out to be a vacuum leak. I've had worn throttle spindles, badly seated intake manifold
O-rings & a cracked mainifold. What happened prior to the problem??
Have you tested the flange seals by spraying them with WD40 etc?
I always make sure the ign side is OK before I look for carby probs too- esp the static timing. I also think the 30PICT's are great- nice &
simple. There SEEMS to be a problem transferring from the full power circuit to the intermediate/idling circuit. See if you can follow what the fuel
does via each circuit in your w/shop manual- you may get a BFO (Blinding Flash of the Obvious).
Good luck!!
Check the idle shut off solenoid. Assuming this carbie has one. Make sure its going click when you turn the ignition on. If its not working then it wont idle.
