Headlight assembly questions
karmannghia60 - August 12th, 2003 at 10:09 AM

I bought new rubbers to go between the lens and metal housing. As you can see from the pic below, the rubber is flat and the wrong shape (not oval). The one line instruction say it needs to be stretched over the lens, does this look right to you? The original rubber had a U shape cross section not flat?

Also, looks like there is another rubber that goes between the lens and the chrome ring, is this correct? If not what is this black thing in the diagram below between the lens & ring?

Last question, the spring holding the whole thing together was rusted and broke in million pieces when I was removing it. Can new ones be bought?
Thank you

Raf

Yes this is the ONLY rubber that is and was made for the headlight

VVDS get this question all the time, so they did a drawing to send with the rubber.

They both are off the 356 but one of them have VW written on the back. I VolksPower has the glass for sale. I think its about $120 or something
Thanks a lot offering the battery. I would use it sometime next week if that's OK by you. I still have your mobile number so you can keep the charger till I pick the battery up
Thanks again

There are two rubbers on a early Beetle headlight

The round one you have taken the pic of is for the headlight glass lens. ITS round and thats all they make now and always it has a U section. the U section folds around the glass.

The other rubber pictured is the one that goes on the headlight bucket on the early mudguard.

Dont forget to get some new clips

Hi

I have Porsche 911 headlights in my bug, they are almost identical to early bug headlights, they use the same clips to hold the lense in, just a whole lot more of them, must be for the higher speed.
