HI guys, had a look on the net and on here, i believe its not too hard to remove the gearbox seal and replace but i do not have a seal puller and am having an issue pulling the old one out...

Any tips? i have bent a nail over and can feel the end of the seal but cannot seem to make it move...? I dont want to score the shart of the box...

Drill a small hole in the metal body of the seal and screw a self tapping screw into the hole, use some grease on the drill so you catch the swarf, you should be able pull it out with vice grips, if it is hard to get out you could try a slide hammer on the head of the screw.

I used to use one arm from a pair of multi grips, grind a point on it and tap it into the space between the seal and shaft and lever it out.

fogot to say that there is a step behind the seal that the seal sits on, dont go in that far.

As above, the seal has a metal body under the rubber.

a long shafted flat blade screwdriver with a 90degree bend in it that sits against the gearbox body

I used the screw and vice grips method. It took alot of pulling but eventually came out after about 15 mins! Don't screw in too deep and don't give up.

buy a cheap and nasty slide hammer, many uses.

Last night i successfully got the seal out thanks to vwo60s tips thanks mate.
Seal replaced and all better now.

Pulled thro the hole as it was so close to the edge of the metal lip So lever method was employed. Least you have 2 ways to tackle the problem
