I have just removed the red stripe on the side of a Nissan XTrail, using a heat gun on the glued on plastic strip.

NONE of the following solvents will remove the residual glue.

Enamel thinner
General Purpose Lacquer thinner
Acrylic thinner
Mineral turpentine
Kerosene
White spirits
Acetone
Propyl alcohol
Methylated spirits
Petrol
Concentrated dish washing detergent
Ethylene glycol

That's every solvent that I have.

Can anyone suggest a possible solvent that might do the job?

try eucalyptus oil, available at chemists, coles, woolworths etc, that will remove just about anything off anything

I tried eucalyptus oil and it will do it, but it's slow and needs a lot of rubbing.

I'd competely forgotten the eucy oil as it was not in the shed.

I should have remembered it as it is the best penetrating oil and I use it quite often for that.

wax and grease remover also works.

gumption works aswell

While I was at it with the eucy oil, I tried tea tree oil. It does almost as good a job as the eucy.

Carbon Tetrachloride might work, it takes off tar spots etc
