I am building a mid-engined motorkhana/ circuit special for my daugter using a VW G/B and MG motor(don't ask!) .If I use the normal G/B I will have 1
forward and 4 reverse gears.I have read that to get 4F and 1 R I need to flip the CWP in the transmission( like a Formula Vee) but having read thru a
couple of work shop manuals this appears to be a rather difficult and would have to take it to (an expensive) specialist to get this done. I am now
thinking of just turning it upside down and using it but am worried about the oil quantity/ level required in the transmission in this scenario. So 3
questions
1 Has anybody got any experience of running G/B upside down and can answer the oil questions ?
2 Anybody know wher I can get the CWP" flipped "without costing an arm and a leg? (Victoria and southern NSW)
3Anybody know where I can get a cheap Formula Vee G/B?
Why not put a Subaru gearbox in it, no need to flip crown wheel and get an extra gear for your trouble.

You will also have no way to drain the box as the drain hole will be on the top.
Also starter motor on bottom,
Don't forget the breather hole in the nose cone would constantly leak
Answer 1. flipping the gearbox over was done for two reasons, a. for the reason you identified and b. the engine ends up closer to the ground
therefore lowering the centre of gravity. simply plug the breather and drill a new one.
Answer 2. If you use a full syncro ('61-'70) gearbox, simply remove the the diff centre from the clutch side, and insert it in the starter motor
side. Or get a kombi gearbox from the same era and remove the reduction hubs!

Camo, Thought of the Suby box but $$$$$ and special will be a 60's period one so Subaru stuff is a bit modern. Also thought of a Renault 12 box and
axles but I wanted something reliable hence VW!

and I see what you mean.The CWP in that G/B arrangement has already been turned over to compensate for the gears rotating in the reduction hubs. Could
be THE answer.
