I have just installed a freshly built 1776 with a brand new clutch and machined fly wheel. I seem to get clutch shudder under load from take off. Any ideas?? Aaron
the bowden tube (at least I think that's what it's called) probably needs adjusting, that fixed mine
I’m with Donn, it’s almost always the Bowden tube.
Once that’s done the next one is that the bolts that hold the pressure plate to the flywheel are done up too tight. I know it sounds strange but
it’s true, easy mistake. They need to done up nice and softly with a tension wrench, or the clutch shudders, strange but true. I hope that’s not
it.
Good Luck
Tony
How do you mean the Bowden tube needs adjusting. Aaron
the bowden tube needs a bend in it "in the middle"..im not sure how much a bend but someone here would be able o let u know. i think the bend is
maybe like 50mm but cant quite remember off the top of my head.....
did u touch the bowden tube at all when u had the engine out??
did u put new engine mounts in?
yep engine mounts or possibly the clutch arm is bent or cracked
You know, I was getting a lot of clutch shudder recently too. Usually as I was taking off from a standing start, particularly uphill. I had reason to adjust the mixture settings on my carb recently as I was running too rich. Now the shuddering has pretty much gone.
Clutch cable tube needs an s bend in it, undo the clutch cable at the gear box and add a few washers to the clutch conduit tube (Bowden) this should sort it.

Changed the Bowden cable as suggested. All shudder gone. I needed a longer one. Thanks again guy,s for the advice. Aaron
