Preparing for rust treatment
thebullfrog - December 31st, 2011 at 09:49 AM

Hey guys,

Firstly, Merry Christmas and a Happy new year.

Okay, so i basically have everything i need now (except stuff from airkewld which is a week or so away). It has now come time to take the body off in order to attack the pan, however i am stuck.... i have no clue how to remove the "HEATER AIR CONNECTOR" ( https://www2.cip1.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=VWC%2D111%2D255%2D415%2DF ), the seal on the body is "broken" and all that is stopping the body coming up is these, so how do you remove them>

Secondly, is it reccomended to take the gearbox off the pan when rust treating both the top and bottom of the pan (it will be going to a soda blaster).

Cheers,

jeremy

don't you just take two little bolts out that hold them in.??
there are floor pan bolts under the back seat.?
and under the back guard.?

That's already been done. There isn't enough clearance between the arm from gearbox to the brake though ( to pull the out in any way).

As long as you disconnect the hoses the connector box should come off with the body. Then you can easily remove it.

And yes, definitely take off the gearbox before attacking the pan. It will make your life so much easier.

At the moment the connector box's have both the bolts taken out and are very loose, but i shall also take the hose off as you suggested.

I am also going to follow: http://www.superbeetles.com/Tech_talk/jun.htm

to ensure i have removed all the bolts and that.

That guide sounds pretty much on the money to me based on my recollection.
