voltage regulator.
Super1302 - December 31st, 2011 at 01:16 PM

i have taken the voltage regulator out of my alternator after i found out it was not charging my battery and causing all of my ignition issues.
how do you check it now whether it has failed or not.
i put a multimeter across the two wires and got a reading of 24 ohms. it was set to 200k on the meter. any ideas please.
also where do you find replacement ones. cheers.

well if it was still together you could have taken it to a sparky and he could have run it up for you usually free service

not sure what You are talking about...
the diodes???'

diodes.... let current go thru one way only...
diodes are usually used to change AC into DC...

is this what We are talking about?

Just ditch it and buy a new alternator. Not dear at all.
The old one is only about thirty years old.

9 diodes in an alternator.

If you have an original VW don't throw it out.

^^^ if you have an original get it rebuilt

You can buy the regulator from CB for $30.00 - but shipping is farking rediculous

Ring VW Parts Unlimited and get it through them
They dont list it but it is available

jamiesc, can you tell me where you got your voltage regulator from, and was it for an alternator or a generator. as the vr on an alt is internal.

cheers
