I'm being driven completely mad by trying to remove the pedal assembly from my 66 beetle.

I've been having issues with the accelerator arm sticking, and when the clutch cable broke it was clearly time to remove the assembly and refurbish it. The beetle seems to have other ideas and is reluctant to let me remove it. For the life of me I can not remove the master cylinder push rod.

I've taken the circlip off the pin holding the push rod to the brake pedal, but the pin is stuck in the pedal. I've been hitting it with a hammer and drift, but getting nowhere. The pin is now flush to the pedal, but that's as far as it wants to go.

As a last resort, I thought I could perhaps use a grinder to cut through the head of the pin and take the push rod off the other side, but I'm not sure if I'd be able to easily buy another one. Any ideas? Brute strength isn't my strong point, but at this point hitting the car with a hammer is a joy

Soak the pin with WD40 (or whatever). I've used Diesel and then go and do something for a day, or so.

Then get an old (Sidchrome) socket that'll fit over the opposite end of where the circlip goes. Hold a lump hammer against the socket, then get someone to use a pin punch to knock the push rod pin through the end of the master cylinder push rod. Even a bit of heat, if you're careful can help.

This is just some of the ways I've got 'round this problem in the past.

lots of WD40 or whatever...

and I would cut the head off and try the other end,..

or.. buy a butane torch which uses butane gas in pressure pack
containers... torch is about $20... 3 cans of Butane $5 at Go Lo
so, You can heat it up...

Realize the push rod only sits in a cup in the master.....so you can actually remove the pedal set at this point anyhow and disassemble so as to be working on the one padal alone.
