Hey guys..just driving home today in my 72 super beetle when the accelerator just dropped to the floor and the cars revs returned to idle
position......can't rev car from accelerator but can from engine bay.....the rod controlling the revs behind the pedal seems to have no more
springiness....the rod just goes up and down ....just wondering what it could be and has this happened to anyone....can someone help
please....greatly appreciated ps...my accelerator has no visible spring behind it just a short rod

Sounds like you've snapped an accelerator cable or it has possibly fallen off at the pedal end.
Try pulling on the end of it from the engine bay and see it it pulls out of the car.

Accelerator cable snapped at some point halfway between the carb and the pedal? (has happened to me)
