68AutoBug - January 28th, 2012 at 10:35 PM

iS THERE AN EASY WAY TO TAKE OUT THE REAR SIDE WINDOWS WITHOUT DAMAGING THE RUBBERS?

just kick the window out.

bare foot or socks obviously so you don't scratch the glass and someone on the outside to grab it.

Lee, use a heat gun or hair dryer to make the rubber softer on the inside. Alternatively this time of year just park your car out in the sun before you take them out. Ironically I found that replacement glass is often cheaper than the rubber itself, so I wasn't too bothered if I broke some glass on my split when removing it!

Cheers

that doesn't always work the rubber can stick quite well. So yeah a forceful but gentle kick seems to work every time

Lee, if you're rubbers aren't decades old and you didn't glue them in they come out easy without kicking, heating, cutting etc.

I've had mine out a few times retinting the glass.

From the inside just slide a blade screwdriver/paint scraper under one corner abit and apply pressure to that area and it will start to jump over the lip.

Pays to have someone standing outside for the 2 side ones incase it falls.

There's a post here somewhere about KY jelly being used to install glass, I used a simillar thing years ago to remove the side rear windows of a Moris 1000 two door, (least I think that was the car) lubricated the inside of the rubbers against the body steel, they slipped out easy as, perhaps that new KY they are advertising on the teev may make the job more enjoyable.:lol:

did it a couple days back. if rubber still flexi, one person needs to lie down in back seat with feet on window, and simply push starting at a side (top or bottom) till it "pops' out. be sure to have someone outside to catch it :). Your wife could push from the outside.

I've found that sometimes a hand on each side of the rear glass in a Beetle, a good shove outwards and the window just falls out.

Sides - January 30th, 2012 at 07:11 AM

Heh - BRG window tint

Joel - January 30th, 2012 at 08:28 AM

I'd put it on a par with Cerulean Blue tint

I am with joel on this one.

use a screwdriver or[aint scraper to get the rubber over the lip at a corner. Then I normally just tap (sometimes firmly) from the isndie with the bottom of my fist and slowly work from where the rubber is over the lip until its out.

Feet seem a little full on.

I tried that with My fingers... bit tough on the fingers..
was trying to think of something that would stop the rubber from going back into place...
maybe some rubbers fit more neatly than others???
so are harder to get out??

have you removed the chrome trim ring?

With cal look rubbers, I have never needed to use more than a fist with mine. Only when they are old and cracked, but then i normally just cut them out with a knife then.

If your buy yourself, tape over the window (allow some slack) and away you guy.

Lee, you do realise you don't need your existing rubbers for pop outs.

narumi - January 31st, 2012 at 11:46 PM

sounds like he just doesn't want to ruin his good rubbers
I just painted my car and yes... I use my feet lol
