was looking at a beetle wreck and interested to know wat year beetle this is out of. the car was a 68 or later bug, but i couldnt get a good look at the back of the speedo to be able to read the date. was wondering if i could hook this up to my Oval tank and hav a fuel guage, the speedo still looks period enough to not look out of place (i know its not 50s thuogh ofcourse)

You already said what year its out of... 68 to about early 70 from memory.

Yes you could hook it up in yr Oval... get a aftermarket VDO sender unit and cut a hole in the top of your Oval tank and calibrate the sender unit to suit the gauge.

It's identical to the one in my '68 Bug.

Its identical to the speedo out of My 68 Beetle... Yes its very similar to the 67 speedo without the gauge...
the later models don't have the chrome and the blue lines....

yeah in the oval i usually run on a memory system for wen i need gas, but now ive put a new motor in im all out of whack, so i am looking for alternatives.
but i might end up putting it in my sisters 60 as she already has a fuel sender hooked up from the previous owner but its going to a mid 70s speedo which looks really out of place in her dash...
