Loose volume control screw- H30/31
Mattriots - February 26th, 2012 at 05:35 PM

Just bought a brand new H30/31,
I'm trying to tune it, but when I back out the volume control screw the required 2.5 turns to het it to the starting point, its is very loose.
Infact when the engine idles the screw jiggles around
Anything over one turn out from a snug seated position feels loose
Any ideas??
Can I tune it and then plug the screw with something or locktite it so it won't move??
Cheers

Does the o ring sit behind the screw or is it visible from the outside??
I can't see one, but I have not completely screwed it out

it sits on the screw

You need to take it out and there should be an O ring sitting on the screw

My guess is it is either missing (but this is new?? "new" never ceases to amaze me) or it is somehow squashed/shagged/flat

This is a Weber ADF mixture screw - but you get the picture

O ring is there, just checked
But it doesn't seem to be sealing properly
Either the o ring isn't big enough, or more likely the hole has been drilled too big
An ideas on a fix?? Should I try and get a bigger o ring? Do they even make them with the same ID but bigger OD??

My vol screw has a cone on the end, then it goes the the threaded section, then there is a step up in diameter with a recess cut into it where the o ring sits
It
Doesn't sit on the threaded section

Take it to a carb shop

They will have a heap of O rings
Hopefully it is just a dud O ring
It happens

Pretty much like that!
The o ring is in perfect condition, I think the hole in the carb has just been drilled too big
I'll try and source a bigger o ring tomorrow
