Hi all
Just checking if anyone has fitted Empi 8 spoke wheels (15 inch x 5.5 inch, 4 x 130) to an L Bug (75, Rack and Pinion), and if so, did they clear the
mudguards?
My tyre guy, who has bought a L bug for his daughter, is telling me they will be too wide and stick out.
Is this the case? If so, what other rims should I consider?
Thanking the forum in advance.
Cheers
JP
They do stick out abit.
Is the car lowered?
At stock height if you don't have overly wide tyres it's not a huge issue but it does depend on which company the 8 spokes are from as there has
been so many copys made with different offsets.
74-75 Lbugs are a royal PITA to find rims for.
everything that bolts on sticks out, the only rims that dont like V-force spiders needs narrow coil springs
Barry will chime in, he's had a few differernt rims on his 75L
Thanks Joel
Am planning to lower the front by 2 to 4 inches, so am considering suspension changes down the track.
Am a bit confused as it was suggested that they would be okay. Another option is Sprintstars which are 5 inches wide rather than 5.5.
Thanks for your response.
Be really careful mate. I bought a set of BRM's (copies of course) and they wouldnt fit with anything bigger than a 165 tyre!! Thi is on a 70's
model bug with 2.5 inch lowered spindles.
I ended up with the 8 spokes and they just fit with 195 x 65 x 15 on rear and 175 x 65 x 15 front.
The critical measurement is the ET or back spacing. Have a look here http://www.empius.com/ for wheel dimensions, then have a look here http://www.rimsntires.com/specs.jsp to do a comparison with wheels you know will fit.

g'day
Its all to do with the offset
A V Force Spider is 6" ET36 - same as a Cookie Cutter
A stock wheel (should) be 4.5" ET 41
The Porsche Boxster 16" wheel is 6" ET 50
These all fit - but the 6" wheels need a thin spring strut
You use a programme like this to see what happens
http://www.1010tires.com/WheelOffsetCalculator.asp
I "believe" a sprintstar "should" fit, 2mm less, as they have are ET25 where as an 8 spoke sticks out 10mm
This is compared to the 6" 36ET wheel
Spiders
Porshe Boxster
Another problem is the rear. You reall want different wheels
The Spiders I had were 36ET on the front and 20ET on the rear
My Boxsters ar 6" 50ET front and 7" 40ET rear
Whatever - I would go the Sprintstarts by the above checks
NOTE
This all depends on what your guards are like
Thanks Old Hutcho and Bizarre!!
Plenty to think about!!!
Cheers
