mods on 56 oval

hey guys,

I'm looking at this oval for sale through the forum.

oval with a 2080 stroker
lowered on spindles
holden stud pattern front and porsche back


The bug is currently rego'd but I was concerned that if I buy it would I have to get a mod plate for all these things (seeing as though they were done before the owner first registered it?, but through a 'friendly' mechanic) do mods like lowering and a bigger bored motor technically need a mod plate? (in qld btw)

The engine capacity increase would require a blue plate along with the brake upgrade that would be required for it, dropped spindles are illegal so you would have to make up your mind wheather you would run them or not, i do not think that you would get any car past a roadworthy with different stud patterns. lots of people do not care that there is a legal requirement to engineer vehicle mods, its all good until you kill of maim someone, i just bought a karmann ghia from this site and it passed the roadworthy with a couple of dangerous defects in the front end so a friendly mechanic is not what you require.

In Queensland you can have a different stud pattern on the front or back, as long as they are the same on each 'axle'.

So if both your fronts are one stud pattern and both your backs are another that's fine. Provided it's all legal and approved of course.

The other issue you have is that carrying a spare is a bitch. Cause you need one for the front and one for the back.

I'd be changing to so it's Holden front and back because it's far more common.

any ideas of costs for blue plating these sorts of things if done right? anyone done anything similar

what state is the car registered in ??

Qld, will be moving to vic soon though so there is another concern..
car is currently rego'd in Qld also

You would have to find a Blue Plate engineer and have a chat to them. Tell them what you want to do and they can help you go about it safely and legally.

Blue plate can be different for each state so if moving to Vic I suggest you ring their transport dept first.
