i'm very close to getting some bits and pieces to start making my beetle look nice ( at the moment i have crappy torn seats and front seats from a
?volvo)
are you able to fit an alarm system to beetles? are there any you guys can recommend?
i don't really care for central locking but would like the car to make some noise if someone fiddles with the doors, engine bay, boot etc.
would you need to have electronic ignition to make it all happen also?
mate, you can fit them. its not hard. the only one i wouldnt recommend is brant. had one fitted and a week out of warranty, it shit itself on the way
to work. had to get towed.
rang them up, they said yes we will send someone out to look at it. next thing i know i was charged 700 bucks to fix a 500 buck alarm system. wasnt
even asked if i wanted to go ahead with the replacement was just done then charged to my credit card. not happy at all. if i was given the choice i
would of said rip it out instead, would of only cost me 100.
when i questioned was told too bad so sad, the work was done and now you have to pay it. when i asked what happened was told that it was spiked and
failed. this i questioned as the stereo i have fitted is still working fine and if there was a spike it would of killed both of them. its strange how
a hard wired system gets spiked while the car and other electrical gear thats hard wired in as well works fine.
13 diffrent colours and take the rotor out thats my anti theft device

hahaha. taking out the rotor sounds like a good idea actually, but i want just a little more anti theft i've had my massive amp and speakers/sub sitting the the garage collecting dust and wanted to put it in and
not have it lifted :/
soo many things i wanna do to my car ... damn online window shopping. my bank balance (allowance my wife gives me haha) can't keep up with clicking
finger. just about got the stero .. now for seat and interior shopping would short back seats look weird in a '69? head rests are over rated me thinks

Just an average run of the mill alarm is all you need.
I've had one in mine for 12 years now.
Its got triggers for doors, boot and decklid as well as shock sensor and glass breakage sensor and it remote controls central locking and remote boot
release and the usual immobilisor points.
But you could just hook up the door triggers and leave the rest.
Barls, was that alarm in your bug or in a mainstream car?
thanks guys! i'll have to do a little more window shopping me thinks
in the bug, never had a problem with the one in the other cars.
Ah ok.
I take it the immobilisor was why you needed a tow?
yeah couldnt even bypass it too many black wires.
so if they fail there is no way to get the car moving?.. i suppose that's exactly why you buy them but still a little worrying if you are just trying to get home
Not normally, just Barls wasn't installed by him and alot of alarms have all black wiring so you can't tell what is what..
The Alarm in one of my other cars is the same, supposed to slow a would be car thief down.
But if you install it yourself or you know where the immobilisor relay is it's very easy to bypass.
Look at Ebay.co.uk. YOu can get a Toad Cat1 Thatcham approved alarm for $100 plus bit extra for postage. Comes with full fitting PDF, microwave
internal sensors and enough door contact wires to cover all Beetle doors, Bonnet and decklid.
Don't waste your money buying from an Oz vendor unless you want an alarm that the Oz insurers will give you a discount on you premium for.
