hey guys, im looking at buyin a beetle that has a noise coming from gear box when in gear and disappears when clutch is pushed in, im thinking throw out bearing? much involved in replacing it? any help apprecieated cheers
Easy to replace throw out bearing.... engine out is 4 bolts and fuel and wiring, replace throwout bearing and refit enigine.
It is not the thrust bearing as the noise would be there when you depress the clutch,it will be the counter shaft bearing in the gearbox as the input shaft is spinning when the cluth is released and stops when you depress the pedal. These can be replaced without a complete dismantle but it means pulling the box out and a few special tools and knowledge, the preferable way is to dismantle the box.
thx guys, too much work for me, moght let this one go thanks again
