Morning all,
Whats the real story with the swing axle seal kits?
They are supplied with 2 x paper gaskets, which would make you think that one of these fit either side of the backing plate. In my experience they
dont actually fit on the back side of the backing plate (between backing plate & axle).
Are they both supposed to be fitted on the outer face of the backing plate? I have a bentley manual that shows 2 different variation of the exploded
view.... one with gasket positioned between the backing & axle...... and the other shows the gasket postioned between the backing plate & the
outer seal carrier.
Should they have aviation sealant applied to them or applied dry? (I have also seen a video showing them being greased before they are put on???).

Or can they be left out altogether.....with sealant used instead.
Have done a few searches & there seems to be conflicting versios of the hows & why's?
Tahnks in advance for you help
Cheers
Brendan
Just one between the bearing cap and backing plate with sealant on both sides. I like to put it on the backing plate and set that in place, then put
the big oring over
Oil the small oring and inside the outer spacer so not to pinch it as the cap goes down.
Load the outer spacer into the seal on the bearing cap, then put it on........Dont place the spacer on the axle the try tighten the cap/seal over the
spacer.
If youve had the bearing out , it's nice to use an extra spacer or two and tighten the nut down to push (ie pull axle back out) and have the bearing
in place with the inner spacer behind (as a dry run without seals).......this way you can place the small oring onto the axle and it will be past the
splines so it doesnt get pinched
make sense?
