what efi ecu unit could i use on a 2007cc mild cam low comp with twin 48 throttle bodies, [was originally supposed to be turbo] is it possible to use one from another type of car, as that would be much less expensive. any ideas i be happy to hear. regards greg

Have a look at the CB system

the system i have is the cb turbo efi. i am not using the turbo and would like to put in another ecu to use with my throttle bodies. i have the four knob dash dial in system and would rather not use that system. i can sell that on with the turbo and get something simplier.

To get a stand alone ECU like Autronic, Haltec etc your looking at $1800-2500, then you need to wire it up and tune it, tuning can get expensive. No OEM ECU is going to be easily adaptable to your setup.

You could look at Megasquirt ECU, SuperOwen on here has set one up

I like the newer CB system as it appears to be fairly straight forward to tune yourself, so if you sold your complete system I feel that would be the way to go.

The only thing I don't like about the CB system is the fuel return to the tank, they advocate teeing the tank outlet, this would recirculate warm fuel, a better solution is surge tank and lift pump or and internal surge tank within your tank and the fuel return running in to the tank to be mixed with the rest of the fuel.

Plenty of aftermarket ECU's out there. Have a look on Google but change between Google.com.au to Google.com.and Google.co.uk.

You'll be surprised the different suppliers that come up this way when you select from that country only.

MegaSquirt is probably the cheapest out there esp if you buy from the Dynotune in USA. There's Motec, MicroSquirt, Link, Hydra and plenty more with prices being anything from OK to f**k me!!!

And depending where you shop you should be able to buy the ECU and wiring loom for less than a grand. As for sensors, well maybe $500 depending on what sensors you want to use.

If you go off the well beaten path with aftermarket ECUs you will have to pay much more for tuning, the actual ECU purchase can be the cheapest part of the whole setup in these cases.

A lot of aftermarket ECUs use common TPS and temp switches.

There seems to be plenty of help out there on the web for setting up these systems. Basic start up tables can be entered fairly easily from what I've read and if you use an AFR in the exhaust then the self tuning software can modify the maps as you drive.

Link and Motec are available locally as are a few others. MegaSquirt is American as is it's cousin MicroSquirt.

Dyno tuning isn't necessarily needed with the tuning software but yes if you want a dyno to set your system up I'll cost a lot not just in tuning time but cos dyno's only support certain ECU's so they may not even want to touch an unknown system but if they do they have to learn it first.

I asked a tuner to dyno my EJ22 and they said they only deal with V8's. Just an example.
