Are type 4 mechanical fuel pumps available anywhere?
kombi_matt - May 9th, 2012 at 08:35 PM

Hi everyone, many years ago my mechanical fuel pump died and my dad replaced it with a facet electric type.

He didn't use a FPR and i believe the high fuel pressure destroyed the needle and seats of the carbs.

Along with this, its noisy, smelly and messy in the engine bay.

I'd like to convert back to the stock mechanical pump. Does anyone know of a source? I have read an ad in VWMA for the 'VW king' which says he has mechanical pumps to suit type 4 and type 1... Can anyone confirm?

Thanks!

I thought I read that type 4 fuel pumps were no longer available
but maybe type 1 pumps can be used/modified??

I use an electric fuel pump with a fuel pressure regulator to control the high pressure..
although the pump I have only goes to about 8 psi.. I think?

still had the needle and seat staying open one day.. until I fitted the regulator..

I have one that is bent to a right angle. It might fit in a type four. If you post a picture of what you think it looks like i'll tell you if it's a match

mine looks a lot like this

I always thought they weren't available anymore, but then I saw the ad in VWMA. I will give the VW king a call tommorow and confirm. His website looks about ten years old with no updates haha.

OK I called the VW king today. There are none in stock, but there is a shipment due to arrive in 3 weeks. He says they are Brasilian ones, so I guess maybe they still have them over there.

Have you tried Tooley Imports in Hornsby?

You can have mine if you pay for postage. Pretty sure it's genuine VW

Unfortunately my PM system on this forum doesnt work. For some reason I cant send or receive any PMs. Its been a constant source of frustration! my email is matthewlindsaysales@gmail.com that will work a bit better i think.

ACTUALLY.... I see you are in Beerwah! I am in Palmwoods on the coast too! . Please send me an email with you contact details, i can come round to see you if thats easier. Is the pump in working condition? I am happy to pay for it or trade in beer currency haha

Thanks!

Often the easiest way.....but the PM system does work once you get used to it. I think the biggest problem is it won't send if the subject line is'nt filled out.
