58' model beetle (S- model?) with km's speedo? this right?
bajachris88 - June 6th, 2012 at 10:08 AM

Random thing,

got talking to the friendly postie and been offered a free ride.

He said its a 1958 model beetle, S model, S meaning it has km speedo?? (his words) anyway its rolling, missing a couple things like headlights and tail lights.

Was to be a donor car for parts for his girlfriends 68' model. (he won't be able to get too much from it) and thus when the 68' is on the road will be excess to his needs.

But isn't S a late model thingo?

He definitely said 19 something 8, and it couldn't be 78....
any help would be great.

Chris.

A super bug.

bajachris88 - June 6th, 2012 at 10:24 AM

bugger! Thanks though.

ah well. No insult to the strut people, but i'm not sure if i'd go all the way out west for a super bug. Early models just have the exotic lines of prestige. Semaphores and 6v turn me on

58' on the other hand... well. Hence initial excitement, but confusion when 's' was thrown in. Will investigate further none the less with the postie.

wonder what made him say 58.... :S might have a good donk.

If its got a good motor Chris it might be worth investigating.

It's probably just one of the 1000s of early bugs with a heap of late parts fitted.

It's pretty common to see an early model thats been hit up and the arse and repaired with a later Sbug engine lid and apron, and alot of people seem to struggle with mph and fit later Km/h speedos.

Yea Zane it might have a good donk to keep me chuggin. i will suss it out. the fella gave me his number and said call in July when he should be finished transferring what he wants. If there is a donk, be nice if he left it in there. we'll see.

Thanks Joel. i will have to take photos and inspect to see whether its worth even hiring a trailer for it. I guess if its an extremely horrible 'bit-sa' and its a beam chassis i might donate it and a spare baja kit to the young brother for his first car. Give him something to keep his friends in their KC ford lasers to get jealous about :D and a local 'dune hopper' partner.

who knows... time will tell. If it is an relatively unmolstered beam body with bolt on mods and swaps, I might go going the og resto way. Not worth getting excited about yet though... only thoughts

Good thing He's the Postie Chris...
doesn't know much about VWs... lol

58s did have trafficators and were 6 volt..

You would be lucky if its a German import with a KLM speedo
or it has the KLM sticker on the glass which were sold in Service stations when KLMs came in...

anyway if its free, and easy to get... and worth the trouble..

but at the moment, it doesn't add up.. lol

cheers

LEE
