Howdy y'all!
I've gone ahead and invested in a Wright gearbox from the states (imported by Classic).
Now, I was planning on getting a 3.88 pro street box with a super diff, but ended up accidentally with a 4.12 freeway flyer. By my understanding
they're the same bar the fourth gear (in the flyer) and the superdiff (pro street) and final ratio.
I'm coupling it to a 2276 with high comp, cranky cam and 48's, and I want it to be a tough street car, and I don't plan to do agressive burnouts or
anything like that.
I'm now thinking of keeping the freeway flyer, as it could be better on the street for my needs.
Basically I'm asking y'all to throw your opinions in (if you know your way around a box) to help me decide whether I'm better keeping this freeway
flyer or should I swap I back for the pro street. The only real reason I was going to go pro street originally was due to the fact that I thought a
super diff was an LSD, which I've now discovers its not.
Anyway, opinion away good people!
Cheers,
Ollie
the freeway flyer will drop yr engine revs down and will less fuel
Yeah that much I know but anyone know how it will effect a big bore engine in terms of performance?
depends on the cam if its for low down torque ( like mine ) runs great
or you have a hi reving motor needing to go over 3 or 4000 revs to get it to move
by the sounds of it you will be reving the engine to get it going
No idea till you tell us what ratios the gears are........
Ah i see...
Not too sure, I think still standard? Sorry I don't know much about gearboxes etc
It's got on fk89 cam
best find out
That's the box...

Did you try referencing the part number on rancho site for gear ratios?

that or an 87, sorry i don't have the spec sheet on me right now and its been a long process hah so forgotten some of the more important stats
As Daimo says, what are the gear ratios? Thing is the Freeway flyer is the 4.1 diff and the Prostreet is a 3.88 diff. The 3.88 is a taller ratio than the 4.1 so more of 'freeway flyer' than the 4.1...??? You need to know the other ratios to make any judgement. The seller or manufacturer should tell you. Why don't you use a local shop? At least you know what you get.

easier to play with your tyre sizes. one you have you trans in.
Ah sweet

Hmm, yeah - definitely suss out all the ratios I reckon.
I know from a past incarnation of gearboxes with Jezebel that changing from a 3.88 to a 4.12 AND NOTHING ELSE makes a huge difference to things.
Have a play around with the Bajawes's excel dyno - can give you a really good picture of the difference it makes in revs, including different tyre
sizes.

Cheers Sides I'll have to have a look into that
My 2 cents all the power in the world is useless if you can't bitch slap it 24/7!Correct choice of quality ratios and parts and an expert build(Dave Buttler is my choice and many others). But it's the expert build that makes all the diffrence.
