if a car has been modified with the smooth look with no body chrome, wat would u need to do to get iut back to original with all the trim pieces? is it a hard job?

i think that if they did the job nicely... ie cleaned up the welds inside neatly etc, then it should be relatively simple, you would just need a car of the same vintage to measure the exact hole positions off.... then measure several times more to check if you had them correct before you re-drilled them.
if you intended to keep the same paint job you would have to be really carefull with the drill, both slipage wise and heat wise... other than that it should be touch up around the holes, fit the rubber thingies, the trim and off to enjoy the new look.

i just checked out a '60 mod shell with no trim on it. all the holes on the side are the same distance down from the body swage (sp) line/continuation of this line along the edge of the bonnet opening. if you made two simpli jigs you could simply run it along the body and mark the possition of the trim holes centre line. once you have the cantre line just mark the possitioning of each hole along the line... drill. even a 100 by 50mm piece of thin cardboard with a notch cut in it to sit a pencil tip in would do for one of the jigs, the other would be little more than this aswell.

Had a car like this once. Mine was easy. I looked at another car and guessed almost exactly where the holes should be and push the smallest screw driver I could find into the paint. Straight through. They had only used body filler. You should check this first or you might find you drill new holes and then the old ones start to show as the body filler falls out. Or even worse you drill directly beside the old hole making one hell of a huge hole once through. The clip probably won’t stay in then. Guess you can check inside the bonnet to see if it is welded up or bogged. But then again mine was pretty smooth inside and covered with paint. I was just lucky I guess. Are you sure the oval isn’t a standard and therefore never had them anyway. Only the deluxe ovals had them. But then most cars sold were deluxe.
