Fire Extinguisher location
Yogie - August 19th, 2012 at 04:05 PM

I want to fit a fire extinguisher but don't want to drill in to the body anywhere. Has anyone fitted theirs to the front seat below their legs like they do in Porsches?

If you have, how did you attach it (feel free to post photos)

Thanks everyone for any suggestions you have.

Thanks Bizarre. That seat just clears the extinguisher doesn't it. Unfortunately mine are not like that. They have the T rails although I would like to mount one to our 68 that has the L rail as well. I figure it would be out of the way located there but I want some ideas for a bracket (unless someone knows of a kit that is available) to go across the seat frame.

Our Beetle has the T rails, and I mounted our extinguisher in exactly the same spot. There is a rib that you can screw to. It does mean you have to unscrew the bracket to take the seat out, but how often do you do that, and 1 minute with a phillips screwdriver is all it takes.

Make sure you buy an extinguisher that has the metal straps (preferably double straps) as the plastic ones have been known to release in an accident :tu:

That is exactly the type I fitted. Twin metal straps.

Any photos you can post for me so I can get an idea of a bracket that works?
