Have had an alternator installed as part of an engine upgrade in my '69 bus. The seemingly simple connection of wires is proving difficult despite
following instructions from some relevant sources.
It appears that a second red wire from the front side of the firewall was not connected to the regulator in the previous setup. Have now connected an
additional wire from the solenoid to the front of the alternator as outlined in some resources - but the warning light remains on and the battery
doesn't hold charge.
I am looking to head for an auto electrician but thought I may be missing something glaringly obvious. Any help would be appreciated.

Not sure which wire You are talking about BUT
an alternator needs the generator light to go ON with the ignition then off once the engine starts and the alternator starts charging..
without that dash lamp an alternator will NOT work..
Hope that is Your problem...
even a dash light sitting in Your engine bay will make it work
the light is connected to the single connection in an alternator with an inbuilt regulator
the other connection goes to the battery

Ta for that. Have the gen (warning) light wire (blue) connected to alternator and red wire from +ve battery terminal also connected to the alternator.
All diagrams show another red wire originating from the front of the bus that apparently needs to splice into the red battery wire.
Generator light comes and stays on but battery loses charge????
