Is this door repair patch strong enough?
psimitar - September 22nd, 2012 at 12:34 PM

So having to repair my nice solid 59 doors due to a previous owner letting the passenger door swing back so far that bent the hinges, the A-pillar, the door and partially rip the rivets thro the outer door skin.

So here's the rivet area I've cut out due to the rivets pulling thru.

So the question is, to maximise strength in the repair should I extend the repair patch up the door pillar or due to the inner strengthener it'll be strong enough?

anyone?

It should be as strong as the original, if you repair it to the original method.

So if it swings too far again, it will rip the rivets again.

If you create more bracing, it will allow other areas to bend or rip before the rivet area does.

So yes it will be strong enough as originally designed.

^^ x2, and the inner takes/spreads the load, but it's hard to tell much more from your pic, ie. the condition of the panels left.

Panels are in A1 condition. Just a bit of surface rust on the inner strengthener that has been Rustkill painted.

Can go ahead and weld a repair piece in now :)

Cheers :D

Sure will :) Need to find some cotter pins as PO was using cut down nails  No surprise on the damage to the door when you find things like that.
