Aussie wiring diagramme?
Old Hutcho - November 25th, 2012 at 03:31 PM

I am trying to wire my Aussie built 65 beetle.

I have the original loom and it went in beautifully. The loom appears to be original and pretty much complete and untouched.

I have been trying to wire lots things but it appears that I dont have the correct wiring diagramme. For example, the light switch I have (out of same model car) has five terminals. I cant find a diagramme which has less than six. Similar situation with the blinker relay. My diagrammes show three terminals. Mine has two. The blinker light wires at the front of the car do not match any colours shown on wiring diagrammes that I have. I am using diagrammes sourced from The Samba, my mates two manuals, my two manuals. The closest I can see is labelled "USA 1300"

Can anybody provide me with the correct wiring diagramme please.

regards

Bob Hutchison.

Paul,

Thanks mate, did see those. They are still not quite right. I cant find any diagramme which shows fuel gauge wiring. Mine has an electric fuel gauge and I have got the lights all hooked up but I am not sure where to take the power from. Mate of mine says behind the ignition switch?? The wiring of the switches is a lot closer than the ones I already have though.

I went to my local library and they had kombi manual, I just got them to photocopy the wiring diagram for me, they even blew it up to a bigger size. But your problem doesnt sound like an ordinary manaul will help

This was about 9years ago though... but might be worth a look.

Australian-made VWs are subtly different from Euro/US VWs of the same vintage, so the wiring layouts are slightly different. US/Euro mid-60s VWs did not have electric fuel gauges, so they won't have fuel gauge wiring in the diagrams. They were an innovation by VDO Australia.

The best place to find Australian wiring diagrams is in Australian-produced manuals of the time. Do an Ebay search on Gregory's or Scientific Publications manuals for the VW1200-1300 - they were published in Australia.

Or yes your local library may have a copy. Look under 629 in the Dewey Decimal system.

Look at the karmann Ghia wiring diagram for the fuel gauge. The samba has these, and were the same type as the Beetles used here later on.

This is a diagram from the 1958 Ghia

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/info/wiring/58ghia.jpg

J5 is the fuel tank sender and K6 is the gauge. I recently had to use the diagram for a recent instal and wiring of a sender and gauge to a car that didn't have one fitted.

Hope this helps.
