I'm pulling the motor and gearbox out of my bug, I fitted new CV boots to my 930 CVs when I put it together about 2 years ago, but they have split, they were NOS so they may have been perished.

I don't have much clearance so I can't go to the type that covers the CV bolts.

I've seen Empi boots on a few websites, are they any good?

commodores have boots? oh right VT + forgot about them.

Pelican parts sell Porsche OEM boots and related kits, not too expensive but you know its good quality. Brand is Loebro if you can find them locally?

I just use aftermarket generic ones...

did they last?

I have had no luck with generic no name brand boots at all, they always crumble after 2 months. I stopped using generic and go with brands I know work.

I'll let you know the brand. I've just pulled my gearbox out and the boots are still mint. I bought them as a box of 10 for something like $200.

The Empi ones are doing ok on my Baja, bought them as they are better than OEM design for increased angles. I used Supa-boot on my old bus, they ran at an even bigger angle in the bus, were very exxy and wore out quickly so thought the empi couldn't be too bad for the price, and they came as a kit with the metal mounting ring too which isn't always the case with the aftermarket ones.....haven't done street mileage tho....

Only the 2 left hand side ones have ripped so far. I'm running a fair amount of angle as the motor is 100 mm forward, its within a usable angle, cant remember what it is at the moment.

This is the rip, I think its a Lobro boot but I bought them years ago as complete axles on a Porsche site only to find that they were the thin Commodore like CVs not the thick 930 ones.

Lobro have had some bad batch's of rubber. I've replaced a few sets of type 2's what I'd call prematurely. Maybe yours were similar vintage, they are failing in a similar fashon. The ones in the pic may work, just have to try them. Are the exxy?

I found road safe to make excellent products and I noted their boots to last very long, haven't had one split or go brittle yet.

I am not sure if they make CV boots though.

on a side note, i noticed they have type 3 upper and lower ball joints on their catalog. Might have to investigate this

Didn't think about turner, the Commodore ones might not have enough travel so I ordered eBay ones, worked out to be $151.96 Au delivered for four boots and bases.
