Just wondering what types of alarms you guys run in your cars? Does anyone have a list of alarms that fit beetles?
Are you able to fit immobilisers and central locking in them with minimal troubles? i'm not really fussed about the central locking but i don't see
how the doors could be alarmed without it. I'm also wanting to have the deck lid and boot alarmed. not so sure that i want the ultrasonic / infra-red
sensors though. they seem to go off alot for no apparent reason (cars and bikes driving past) a shock or tilt sensor would be a nice idea though.
Can anyone recommend one that is approved by insurance companies? i'm insured with shannons.
oh also can you recommend someone that installs them in brisbane?
Cheers guys,
Farhan
I don't know what is approved and who has to install them
I have always had alarms in My cars
even back in the 70s
[had a key switch to switch on & off and alarm went off when the door etc was opened and stayed on for about 10 seconds
due to a interior lamp delay]
Now I've just got a remote alarm - [that also flashes all the blinkers [10 times] every time a door or bonnet etc is opened with it unarmed]
If You get a good discount for having an approved alarm that doesn't cost an arm & leg to have installed..
would be nice..
the alarms are fairly easy to install...
I have never had a motion sensor connected, but I believe they can be adjusted.. and the tilt switch would be great too.. have used them for lights in
boot before..
I have always been going to put a 110db siren inside the car
so that anyone trying to get inside the car, just couldn't with the noise..
but have always thought about it going off when I was driving.. YIKES.. although the normal outside alarm has never gone off when driving...
but inside, it could [would] damage Your hearing..

PS: You can have remote locking [I have the items to put in My beetle for a few years.. lol]
and there are some people on here who have this now..

ask shannons for the approved list in your area.
personally id stay away from brant, ive had nothing but troubles with the one ive had fitted and have been told too bad so sad by the manger.
I have never alarmed my cars. guess this is important if you live in the city or some bogan town like Scumbry for example.
I have other means of disabling my cars if I feel worried.
I had our local Auotbarn install my alarm & remote central locking (and electric windows). They just installed a push switch (they work like the
interior light switches in the doors) under the bonnet to protect that, but I did't worry about the engine bay.
The switch for under the bonnet basically just earths when you open the bonnet, so I installed a light under there that also comes on when you open
the bonnet (bloody handy at night).
beetleboyjeff Did you get your alarm from autobarn also?? was it an expensive install?
Barls is brant a brand of alarm of a place that installs them?
Not sure of the brand, but they did supply it as well as install. It was about 5 1/2 years ago, and I don't recall the price - I might be able to get
the boss to look it up tomorrow night if it is any help.
It has been pretty reliable though, and damn convenient. I reckon it will also depend on what installers (if any) they have working in your particular
store.
its an alarm company. they install the alarms but im sure its the same one most of the companies use.
