Magnaspark digital vs msd
aintgotitmusthaveit - December 4th, 2012 at 05:03 PM

Hi guys
I've hot my supercharged 1916 and I changed the pulley for more boost.
The car is pinging terribly now and power is way down. Currently running a stock 009

A while ago I bought a msd6al box with a billet distributor and leads that cost me a mozza in the cupboard as I planned to fit it and change the springs in order to frig with the advance curve

But I've come across the manga spark distributor
http://www.cbperformance.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=2014
Which seems to do everything I want

Does anyone have any experience using this product and recommending which way I go as I can sell the msd kit to buy the magma spark unit

My car is not used for drags
More a project to tinker on...

I'd go Magna-Spark Digital, for street tune it is way more adjustable than MSD IMO. I've got one on my street/race 3 litre and I was able to tune out the detonation that I couldn't with a mechanical distributer. Mapping is quite easy ot customise.

Matt thanks for the help
Is there any chance of sharing the dimensions of the unit?
What diameter?
And how high off the crank case does it sit?

Was wondering how good they are, good to hear they are worthwhile. Pondering a 1600tp with an AMR500 blower and ??? Carb when I get a beetle again.

I'd also always go mappable as far better flexibility.

Also, do you have an AFR fitted to your exhaust so you can see how lean/rich you are running? Turning the boost up normally means the fuelling needs upping too.

The Magna-Spark is the same as all the large diameter distributers, the body is around 90mm but has two ears where the cap securing screws are, so a little over 100mm or 4" in diameter. How high off the case? Mine is on a type 4, but there are plenty of pics about with this or similar fitted.

I trial fit it today
And I can get it in after all!
Now the question is should I or should I sell it....
The magna spark digital seems to do everything I want!
