Sweet site!!! Oh nice vws too!
It is a very cool site and shows how many branches the VW enthusiast can take.
Also helps having the population base for so much variety.
Well, I finally was able to go to the legendary Bonneville Speedway. Unfortunately I didn't get the bus finished in time, so I just went as a
spectator. Burley Burile had invited me to come out to see the 36hp Challenge. The 36hp Challenge is a special set of classes for 36hp motor and has 5
levels from "stone stock" which is a non modified 36hp motor, to "new age" which is are far as you can go with a 36hp motor. The record for 36hp
was set in 1961 and was finally broken this year by the Tom Bursh Engined Gaylen Anderson owned car seen here.
Another awsome side note. The cam in this motor is an original Isky cam from like 40 years ago. Well, Ed Iskandarian (Isky) was in attendance at the
meet and came over to meet the owner and engine builder and signed the decklid. The nostalgia was running thick. Here's me next to the gang with Isky
the small one in the brown shirt
The man himself
And the record crew
Here's my favorite pic of the event
And here the rip roaring 36r spitting salt
There's a bunch more pics if you go here

Put together a car and head out next year. It's a very inexpensive form of racing and the history and nostalgia cannot be beat. Next year the bus
will definitely be there. Maybe the Boxrod too as a push vehicle. See ya, Derek
