Great pics... whats the FB Holdens doing in the second shot ??
I see the Datos in the first pic must be around 69 or 70 according to the VW shells.
Excellent pics :thumb
Love black and white shots
Dave, I was thinking the same thing... How did Holdens and Datsuns come to be in the same factory as VWs?:o
i believe that the datsuns also used the same vw colours
Had a Datsun 1600, it was an amazing little car, a real work horse. It did several trips into central and Nth Queensland towing a heavily laden
trailer, long camping trips. Had a big roo take out our front lights going into Carnarvon Gorge at night. The family just grew too big for it
But then they just didn't have the character of a VW
Still love looking at black and white pics :thumb
In the late 60's early 70's before VW Aust. went belly up the factory was used to assemble a number of different cars Dato's being one
of them. They also went back to CKD kits from germany, only minimal Aust. content. I can't remember the relationship, wether VW assembled cars
for other makes, or they leased out building space they no longer needed?
Those pics were on Ebay a few weeks ago, i bid but was not successful.:cry
Oh no! Was there the last minute bidding frenzy?
They would have been nice pics to have. Well someone must be happy.
Jen I didn't know you had been up in Queensland. I used to live just over an hour From Carnarvon and visited it frequently during school
holidays. I was nearly cleaned up many a time by wallibies while on my KLR250 and later KLR600 going in and out of there. I was stuck in there for
three days one time from an overnight storm which swelled the creek for days afterwards.
I love Black and White shots too. Sal takes some Magic B&W prints and develops them herself. Can't get her to take shots of the Baja though.
Mutters somthing about time wasting.
A little known fact..this very factory is now used to assemble HSV Commodores!
ehh?
I thought the factory was now the head offices of LINFOX or something like that?
Used to drive past it fairly often when Wolf was being restored in Clayton.

I work in the grounds of this factory at my client (which Jay so kindly pointed out). It's a very large block, and I know that Linfox doesn't use all of it. Linfox use the bit to the side of Kombi Ave.
:o Theres a Kombi Ave. Umm jaaaay. You let me drive past kombi ave without taking a picture????
doh. Sorry Chris. We may not have actually driven past it...
Next time you are down we will go have a look
