another one gone to heaven or maybe hell with all those flames
Holy crap - they are definitley not the kind of flames I want to see on or in a VW. :cussing
Now that is one hot kombi.
Just joking. It makes me want to:cry
BBQ!!! Now where'd i put my steaks and snags?
Seriously...that's not cool...:cry
That really hurts...we should have a tech talk on fire protection...
ouch thast gotta hurt....its even worse when they do it in the movies..such a waste
I've seen a couple of kombis go down that way :cry Has inspired me to save up for an engine bay, race spec fire bomb system for my fasty.
So, so sad to see a veedub go up in flames
OMG :cry:cry:cry
That's is so sad:jesus
i cant believe it.
Thats vicious
Yeah that was one thing I didn't like about Jimoin *spell* movie, The Craic, when they destroyed the splitty ... I cried, but stuck around to the
end - just to see if there was some disclaimer stating 'that no volkswagens were hurt in the production of this movie' I didn't ...
and I cried ...
Why ?!?! The humanity !!!!
you've all probably already discussed this somewhere else, but i've heard somewhere that bugs are prone to spontaneous combustion.. something about the battery being located near the seat every so often, the above happens... i may be wrong. either way, its not a very happy outcome:cry
I thought i would let anybody know that suffers the memory of seeing that splitty in the craic go up in flames that there was two different splities
the one that went up in flames was actually a fish eye 63-67
vanand had already been rolled over and smashed, rather than the 59-63 van that jimeoin was driving, it is a terrible thing to see any vw go up in
flames but it can usually b prevented by preventative maintenance.
The way I understand it, the Beetles that have been converted to 12V from 6V that have not been done properly are the ones that tend to burn,
People put a 12V battery under the seat and dont put it in a box or at least cover with an insulating mat.
Years may go by before someone sits in the back seat and their weight pushes the steel springs down onto the positive terminal of the battery and that
makes sparks and that can then catch alight the coconut string padding in the seat, and then you have a very vicious fire on your hands and a car full
of people to get out in a hurry.
I carry a fire extinguisher, mounted in the car and an insulating cover over the battery and also often check my fuel connections and wiring loom for
condition.
I also understand that the brass pipe going into the Carburetor for the fuel line has a tendancy to come out of the carby, leaving a good condition
hose clamped well with a nice new clamp to a pipe, which, as a result of corrosin from dissimilar metals touching each other,
has fallen out and is spraying fuel everywhere in the engine bay till someone notices it, often from a woof sound and a few seconds to get out and
watch their pride and joy burn fiercly to the ground.
I like most of us have put a lot of work into my VWs and have nightmares of such horrible things.
Cheers Tony
the split mentioned in the movie the craic was a 58 and sold in the unique cars magazine over 18 months ago for around the $3,000 mark so his still out their somewhere. i remember seeing it at the sydney nationals in the car park 2 years ago with mat something plates on it
i dont like those flames they look a bit intense. NOt Happy JAn!!!!:o
I want one of those heaters?
