I'm sure these cars would sell better in Australia if they could tow. I go to a lot of horsey events & I've only seen 1 crew cab VW in about 15 years. Because they have had a ridiculously weak gear box, the factory applied a limit of 12% (?) incline when towing at the max weight level. The most popular tow vehicle I see is your average Landcruiser/patrol/Discovery ete etc.
The new price of these is getting close to a caravelle & are probably dearer than a diesel crew cab but they are not ideal because they lack the cargo space for saddles etc. Then there are caravans etc etc to tow. If you are making a vehicle to carry a lot of people, why not "over" engineer it to broaden its scope??
