That is an early model beetle , with a 4 door body which was made by two companies in Germany or Austria in the 50s..

I can't remember who made them... Karmann ??

VW Beetles in Mexico were used as Taxis, with 2 doors and the front passenger seat removed...

New Mexican Government Rules - all New Taxis had to have 4 doors... Volkswagen do Mexico stopped making Beetles...
end of story...

Now if they had made 4 door Beetles, as in the photo, they probably would still be making Beetles in Mexico....

Thanks Lee. It looks great with the doors opening opposite directions. I'd prefer one of them to those new Mazda's (RX8 I think) anyway. Bet they are worth a bit now?

That beetle was made in 1952 by Rometsch... with the rear suicide doors.....

Hebmuller, Papler and Austro-Tatra also made 4 door beetles with soft tops... mainly for the police...

well try to smash a beer bottle on a soft top...
